'n Psalm. Van Dawid. Sluit af met 'n aanmoediging soos hierdie man, sy naam was Dawid.

Mark and Dr Thompson:Mark had always been a faithful man, dedicated to his family and his faith. However, as he faced mounting financial struggles, his faith began to waver. Despite his fervent prayers, it seemed like God was not providing for his needs. Feeling lost and frustrated, Mark decided to seek help from a therapist named Dr. Thompson. Dr. Thompson listened attentively as Mark poured out his heart, expressing his confusion and disappointment with God's apparent silence in his financial struggles. Mark spoke of his prayers for provision, his efforts to find work, and his growing sense of despair as bills piled up and debts loomed overhead. After patiently listening, Dr. Thompson offered a gentle smile. "Mark," he said, "I understand your frustration, but perhaps there's a different question you need to ask." Mark looked puzzled. "What do you mean?" "Well," Dr. Thompson began, "instead of asking why God isn't providing financially, perhaps you should consider asking what you need to learn from living simply." Mark furrowed his brow. "But I've been praying for God's provision. Shouldn't I continue to do so?" "Of course," Dr. Thompson reassured him, "but sometimes God's answers come in unexpected ways. Maybe this is an opportunity for you to discover the beauty of simplicity, to learn valuable lessons about contentment, gratitude, and reliance on God." Over the following weeks, Dr. Thompson guided Mark through a journey of self-reflection and discovery. Together, they explored the underlying beliefs and fears that were driving Mark's fixation on financial security. Through their conversations, Mark began to realize that true wealth was not measured in material possessions but in the richness of relationships, the joy of simple pleasures, and the peace that comes from trusting in God's provision. As Mark embraced a mindset of simplicity, he found unexpected blessings in the midst of his financial struggles. He cherished quality time with his family, enjoyed the beauty of nature, and discovered newfound resilience and strength within himself. One day, as Mark sat in quiet contemplation, he offered a prayer of gratitude to God. "Thank you, Lord," he whispered, "for teaching me the lesson of simplicity. Thank you for showing me that true wealth lies not in abundance but in contentment. Help me to trust in your provision, knowing that you will always provide for my needs." With a renewed sense of faith and purpose, Mark faced the future with confidence, knowing that he was not alone in his journey. And as he continued to seek God's guidance, he found peace in the knowledge that his true treasure lay in the love and grace of his heavenly Father. We either see our relationship with God like that of a beggar with a business man, or a son with a loving father. The Beggars: Seeking Provision Without Relationship Balaam: Balaam, a diviner hired by Balak, king of Moab, to curse the Israelites, exemplifies a transactional relationship with God. Despite being warned by God not to curse Israel, Balaam continued to seek divine favor for personal gain. He only turned to God when it served his interests, but he lacked genuine intimacy or trust. The Israelites in the Wilderness: Throughout their journey in the wilderness, the Israelites often approached God with demands for immediate provision and relief from their hardships. They grumbled and complained, exhibiting a superficial relationship based on seeking temporary benefits rather than genuine communion with God. The Sons: Relating to God with Love and Trust David: King David is renowned for his intimate relationship with God, characterized by trust, devotion, and vulnerability. In the Psalms, David poured out his heart to God, expressing deep emotions of joy, sorrow, repentance, and praise. He approached God as a beloved son, confident in His love and faithfulness. Jesus: Of course, the ultimate example of a son's relationship with God is Jesus Christ himself. Throughout his earthly ministry, Jesus demonstrated unwavering trust and dependence on his heavenly Father. He prayed fervently, not out of fear or neediness, but out of intimate communion and submission to God's will. Contrasting Dynamics Motivation for Prayer: The beggar-like approach to prayer is driven by self-interest and immediate needs, while the son-like approach is motivated by love, trust, and a desire for communion with God. Frequency of Interaction: Beggars may only approach the businessman when in need, whereas sons enjoy constant communication and fellowship with their father. Depth of Relationship: The relationship between a father and son is characterized by intimacy, trust, and mutual affection, whereas the dynamic between a beggar and a businessman is transactional and superficial. Lessons for Today: Cultivating a Son-like Relationship with God Understanding God's Love: Recognize that God's love for us is unconditional and everlasting. We can approach Him with confidence, knowing that He desires a close relationship with us. Prayer as Communication: View prayer not as a means to manipulate or bargain with God but as an opportunity to commune with Him, sharing our joys, sorrows, and deepest desires. Trusting in God's Provision: Trust that God knows our needs even before we ask and is always faithful to provide for us according to His perfect will. Seeking God's Will: Align our desires with God's will, knowing that He has our best interests at heart and desires what is ultimately good for us. In summary, the contrast between the beggar-businessman relationship and the father-son relationship highlights the importance of cultivating a deep, intimate connection with God characterized by love, trust, and genuine communion. May we strive to approach God not as beggars seeking handouts but as beloved children, confident in His love and provision. Why are you here? Give me something?
About Good Will Hunting:One of my favorite movies of all time is Good Will Hunting. Perhaps because I was raised in a rough neighborhood. Perhaps because we all wished we were that smart and care-free. Who knows? What I do know however is that some of the coolest scenes in movie history come from this film. Especially the scene where he meets Skylar, a medical student who would become his girlfriend later in die story. So, this is how Will and Skylar meet. Will defends his friend from college students pretending to be smart. And then, in one of the following scenes Will shows the same college student exactly how smart he is. He knocks on the window of where the "too cool to be noticed" student is sitting, and asks him: "Do you like apples?" The student casually replies: "Yeah." Will: "Well I got a number. How do you like them apples?" Classic cinema. The other day I was looking for some apples:Not the same apples Will got. I was looking for real apples. It was 20:00, and my wife and I just got back from church. We were out of the house all day. I had preached three sermons and we had a family function as well. She opened the fridge and shrugged: "No apples." I knew this was a problem. The kids needed apples for their lunch boxes the next morning. We had to get apples. I drove to the nearest garage that had a convenience store. No apples, and I had the sneaky suspicion that no convenience stores in the area would satisfy this need for apples. Just as I got out of the store, I saw a colleague buying fuel. Heidi. We were surprised to see each other, and she asked what I was doing there. i explained our challenge, and she kindly offered to give me apples. I drove behind her to her house and smiled as she gave me two apples. Two green, thank-God, apples. The Kingdom of God is all about them apples:One of the greatest things about living in the Kingdom of God is having moments such as this. Moments that are about apples, but not about apples. Moments that you are just amazed at how God provides you with what you needed - not apples. But a story.
A simple story about a dad who needed apples, and "randomly" ran into a friend who could help. A story about a dad who, had he left 10 minutes later would not have gotten any apples. A story about apples is not about apples. Just ask Will Hunting. He had no idea that when he defended his friend it would lead to a new romance. Maybe that's the lesson. Look life in the eye, face it with courage, and then say when God provides: "How do like them apples." Well, for me, I am sold out. I love them apples - them stories of God grace. Hy is verheug. Daar is blydskap in empatie.
Lekker luister, lekker lag. In this unique baking competition, skilled cake artists craft incredibly realistic cakes that look exactly like everyday objects, from household items to animals and even food. The twist? Viewers, along with a panel of judges, are left guessing whether what they're seeing is a genuine object or an intricately designed cake masterpiece. As contestants showcase their exceptional talent and creativity, each episode presents a fun and suspenseful challenge: discerning between the real and the edible. With jaw-dropping reveals and surprising twists, "Is It Cake?" offers a delightful blend of creativity, suspense, and culinary artistry that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Whether you're a baking enthusiast or simply enjoy mind-bending illusions, this series promises an entertaining and visually stunning journey into the world of extraordinary cake design. So grab a slice of excitement and join the fun as we explore the deliciously deceptive world of "Is It Cake?" on Netflix. It really is difficult to know if someone is telling the truth:It may seem like a lighthearted baking competition at first glance, but underneath its sugary surface lies a profound reflection on the concept of honesty. The show challenges our perception of reality by presenting us with visually convincing cake creations that mimic everyday objects to perfection. In doing so, it prompts viewers to question the authenticity of what they see and consider the difficulty of discerning truth from deception—a theme that resonates deeply with our daily lives. As contestants meticulously craft their cake creations, viewers are left in awe of the intricate detail and realism achieved. However, the show reminds us that appearances can be deceiving and that even the most convincing facades may conceal something entirely different. In a world where misinformation and deceit are rampant, "Is It Cake?" serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of skepticism and critical thinking in navigating the complexities of truth and falsehood. Moreover, the series underscores the inherent challenge of determining honesty in interpersonal relationships. Just as judges on the show struggle to differentiate between real objects and cake replicas, individuals often grapple with deciphering the sincerity of others' words and actions. "Is It Cake?" encourages us to approach interactions with humility and empathy, recognizing that understanding someone's true intentions requires careful observation, empathy, and open communication. In essence, the show prompts us to reflect on the value of honesty, both in our own lives and in the way we perceive the world around us. Macolm Gladwell explains the challenge well in his book "Talking to Strangers".And that is why "Is it Cake" will probably not be your type of TV series. It reminds us that even though we think we can see very well, most of the time we can't. How to spot a liar:Unless someone confessed to lying, or the evidence catches them out, it is extremely unlikely that you will spot a liar. But spotting someone not being truthful is easier.
The reasons for someone not being truthful could either stem from reasons that will help you love and understand someone or find out that your perspective is too challenged to continue being in their company. That journey belongs to you, and understanding why people aren't telling you everything you need to know is a never ending journey. But don't let "is it cake" steal all your joy from the relationships you have. It could also just be a fun TV series about bakers creating cake that don't look fake. Our toughest times are when:the inconceivable happens. Anything that happens that we had no idea could destroy us, has the potential to provide us with a tough time. Tough times usually challenges us to rethink the way we are doing things - That is great. So what are the most important actions we can take when we are going through a tough time? Here are three things that give us more freedom when we are going through a tough time: 1. Get a hobby:Albert Camus, the renowned existentialist philosopher, made significant contributions to our understanding of hobbies and leisure pursuits. Camus emphasized the importance of finding meaning and fulfillment in everyday activities, including hobbies, as a means of combating the absurdity of existence. He believed that engaging in hobbies allows individuals to create their own sense of purpose and happiness in a world devoid of inherent meaning. Camus argued that hobbies serve as a form of rebellion against the absurdity of life, providing moments of joy and fulfillment amidst the chaos and uncertainty. In his philosophy, the pursuit of hobbies becomes a way to assert one's autonomy and find solace in the face of life's inherent challenges. By actively pursuing our hobbies, we are taken away from the direct tough times we face. We need to be creative in the pursuit of our hobbies, which enables us to problem solve and that creates confidence. The Bible says the following:
2. Set yourself apart:Because tough times requires a different way of thinking about yourself and your life, you need to spend time to evaluate what you are experiencing in the new challenge you face. Sometimes the real challenges are just beneath the surface. Setting yourself apart helps in finding how the tough time is challenging perspectives you previously had. How to set yourself apart? When facing tough times, a Christian can set themselves apart by turning to their faith for strength, guidance, and perspective. They can do this by deepening their prayer life, seeking solace in scripture, and leaning on their community of fellow believers for support and encouragement. Additionally, a Christian can set themselves apart by demonstrating patience, forgiveness, and compassion in the face of adversity, reflecting the teachings of Jesus Christ. By maintaining hope and trust in God's plan, even during difficult circumstances, a Christian can stand out as a beacon of faith and resilience, inspiring others through their example of steadfastness and grace. We set ourselves apart by setting an example of patience and faith. We are called to a deeper relationship with God when we experience a tough times. 3. Sell something you thought you needed:The story of the young rich man who encountered Jesus is a poignant lesson on the conflict between material wealth and spiritual fulfillment. In the Gospel accounts, a wealthy young man approaches Jesus, eager to know how to inherit eternal life. Jesus instructs him to follow the commandments, to which the man responds that he has kept them since his youth. However, Jesus then challenges him further, asking him to sell all his possessions, give to the poor, and follow him. The young man, deeply attached to his wealth, leaves sorrowful because he cannot part with his possessions. This narrative underscores the importance of prioritizing spiritual values over material wealth and highlights the radical call to discipleship that Jesus extends to all who seek to follow him. It serves as a reminder of the sacrifices required to truly commit to the teachings of Jesus and the kingdom of God. Selling something is a way of releasing ourselves from a life of holding on to things, and more importantly, perspectives. Holding on to old perspectives will keep you away from understanding the tough time you are in. So do yourself a favor - sell something. A couple of weeks ago a rare occurrence took place in my life as a husband and father. I had to spend a night alone at home. Now, as the father of a 5- and 7-year-old, this rarely happens. So last Thursday, the day before good Friday, I got home to a very untidy living room. No so much untidy, but rather full of toys. On one couch, our son had parked what appeared to be two million cars. On the floor and other couch, our 7-year-old daughter had built what appeared to be a city created from Lego for teddy bears. Yeah. No watching TV that night. Had to clean first. But then the realization: I f I cleaned the whole living room, the place where they love to create indoors, the space would feel rather empty. Tidy or empty? For me, cleaning up would've meant that I would not be reminded of our kids, or at least, cleaning up and tidying had the risk of not thinking about them. As it turns out, you can't forget your kids. I tidied up, went to church where I had to preach a sermon on John 15. This is a passage where Jesus says He is true vine. He reminds His disciples that they had one very important task: They had to remain in Him. This would get a new meaning for them in just a few days. Within a few days, He was dead, and had also resurrected from the dead. 40 days later, He ascended to heaven. He was gone, but not really. As it turns out, the Holy Spirit He promised would guide His followers, as well as me. As well as billions of people in the world. I could forget our kids after tidying up the living room, but I did miss them. The same can be said for a son's pursuit of tidying up:A couple of weeks ago I sold lots of the equipment I inherited after my dad died 5 years ago. I sold it because I had no need for it. My dad had workshop about twice the size of the Sydney Opera House. Also, I am a writer, and my woodworking skills are limited in comparison to what he could do. I guess the fear of tidying up kept me hostage. Fear keeps us hostage. I didn't forget my dad, rather the tidying up had refocused me on the most important question for me right now: 'What is it that God wants to do through me?" The answer: "Whatever it takes to inspire people to connect to Him." I guess the subconscious fear of achieving great things and making a difference is part of all of our lives. But it shouldn't be. How to live without fear? The question then arises; "How would I recognize my own subconscious fears?" Or rather: "How would I bring the subconscious drivers of my live to the surface?" As it turns out, this is a life-long pursuit. 1. Self-Reflection:Without some peace and quiet, there can be little to no recognition of what happens in our subconscious. Carve out some quiet time for self-reflection. Grab a journal and start writing down your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Pay attention to recurring themes or patterns, especially those that evoke strong emotions like anxiety or unease. Journaling can act as a window into your subconscious, revealing underlying fears that may have been lurking beneath the surface. 2. Explore Childhood Experiences:Our subconscious fears often stem from childhood experiences or traumas that we may not even be aware of. Take some time to reflect on your upbringing and any significant events or experiences that may have shaped your fears. Childhood memories, even seemingly insignificant ones, can hold valuable clues to understanding your subconscious fears and how they impact your life today. 4 ways in which connecting with your subconscious can help you be successful in life:Identifying and Overcoming Limiting Beliefs: Our subconscious mind is like a vast repository of beliefs and attitudes that we've accumulated over the years, many of which were formed during childhood. Some of these beliefs may be serving as barriers to our success without us even realizing it. By connecting with our subconscious through techniques like self-reflection, journaling, or therapy, we can unearth these limiting beliefs and challenge them head-on. Whether it's a belief that we're not good enough, smart enough, or deserving of success, shining a light on these subconscious barriers allows us to replace them with empowering beliefs that support our goals and aspirations. For me, this became a reality when I realized my father never wanted me to be a wood worker or pastor for that matter. Since a young age, he never inspired me to be like him. He saw in me a creative inventor, which I am. Starting businesses and taking gambles. Starting new ministries and having wonderful adventures. By selling the stuff I didn't need, I was creating space for the knowledge I did need. Harnessing Creativity and Intuition: The subconscious mind is a treasure trove of creativity and intuition. It's where our wildest ideas and deepest insights often originate. By tapping into our subconscious through practices like meditation, visualization, or dream analysis, we can access this wellspring of creativity and intuition to fuel our endeavors. Whether it's coming up with innovative solutions to problems, envisioning future possibilities, or making gut-level decisions, connecting with our subconscious can provide a rich source of inspiration and guidance on our path to success. Aligning Goals with Core Values and Desires: Success means different things to different people, and often, our true definition of success lies buried beneath layers of societal expectations, peer pressure, and external influences. Connecting with our subconscious allows us to tune into our deepest desires, passions, and values – the things that truly matter to us on a soul level. By aligning our goals and aspirations with our core values and desires, we create a roadmap for success that is authentic, meaningful, and fulfilling. Rather than chasing after someone else's idea of success, we can pursue goals that resonate with our true selves, leading to a greater sense of satisfaction and fulfillment in life. Unlocking Self-Healing and Personal Growth: Our subconscious mind holds the keys to our emotional and psychological well-being. By delving into our subconscious through therapeutic techniques like hypnotherapy, EMDR, or inner child work, we can uncover and heal deep-seated wounds, traumas, and unresolved issues that may be holding us back from reaching our full potential. As we release old patterns and embrace new ways of thinking and being, we open the door to profound personal growth and transformation. By connecting with our subconscious in this way, we not only enhance our chances of success in the external world but also cultivate a greater sense of inner peace, wholeness, and authenticity. The next morning:After a night alone in our house I once again realized the power of being part of a family in which we create space for our kids to express themselves. My prayer for them is the same as that which Jesus had for His disciples: "Stay true to the vine. Stay in Me."
So what is it about?Set in a bustling New York City neighborhood, "Becker" follows the misadventures of Dr. John Becker, a grumpy yet brilliant physician with a heart of gold (well, maybe bronze). Played by the incomparable Ted Danson, Becker is known for his no-nonsense attitude, sarcastic quips, and utter disdain for just about everything – from his patients to his fellow humans in general. But don't let Becker's gruff exterior fool you – underneath that prickly demeanor lies a soft spot for his eclectic group of friends and colleagues who frequent his small neighborhood diner. There's Reggie, the no-nonsense owner of the diner who isn't afraid to give Becker a piece of her mind; Jake, the lovable yet slightly dim-witted diner employee; and Linda, Becker's quirky and ever-hopeful office assistant. Together, this motley crew navigates the ups and downs of life in the big city, from awkward encounters with patients to bizarre situations at the diner and everything in between. Whether it's Becker's relentless crusade against the injustices of the world or the hilarious banter between the diner regulars, "Becker" serves up laughs by the bucketful in every episode. See for yourself:Now that you have an idea how Becker is:As you can see, spending time with Becker is not for the faint of heart. He really isn't the type of person you'd want as a son-in-law. He always says what he thinks, and what he thinks of people is not that great. What would the world be like if people always said what they think? For John Becker the challenge isn't being honest all the time. The challenge is that he thinks he is superior in his dealings with everyone. There is a big difference between being honest all the time and looking for reasons to tell everybody, all the time, exactly what you think of them. Honesty comes at a cost, according to the BIble. In the Bible, the apostle Paul offers several pieces of advice regarding honesty and integrity: Ephesians 4:25 (NIV): "Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body." In this verse, Paul emphasizes the importance of speaking truthfully and avoiding falsehoods in our interactions with others. He highlights the unity of believers as members of one body, underscoring the significance of honesty in maintaining harmonious relationships within the community. Colossians 3:9-10 (NIV): "Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator." Here, Paul urges believers to refrain from lying to one another, emphasizing the transformation that occurs through faith in Christ. As followers of Christ, believers are called to embody truthfulness and integrity in their words and actions. 2 Corinthians 8:21 (NIV): "For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man." In this verse, Paul emphasizes the importance of integrity in both God's sight and the sight of others. He encourages believers to prioritize doing what is right and honorable, recognizing that their actions reflect not only their commitment to God but also their reputation among fellow believers and the wider community. Ephesians 4:15 (NIV): "Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ." Paul emphasizes the importance of speaking the truth in love, highlighting the balance between honesty and compassion in our interactions with others. By speaking the truth in love, believers contribute to the growth and maturity of the body of Christ, reflecting the character of Christ himself. Overall, Paul's teachings underscore the importance of honesty, truthfulness, and integrity in our lives. He encourages Christians to embody these virtues in their relationships with others, recognizing their significance not only in God's sight but also in fostering unity, growth, and maturity within the body of Christ. And then there are some days...when you just feel like you can unleash on your fellow man. We all want to be John Becker some days, but the truth is: That way of living is a lonely way to live.
One of my favorite episodes of the classic sitcom Seinfeld is where George attempts to convert to the Latvian Orthodox Church. It is especially funny since this is also the episode where Kramer realizes that he has the Kaforka. This very fictitious word roughly translates to "the lure of the animal". Now Kramer probably always knew that woman was attracted to him, but in this episode, it reaches new challenges. In this episode, one of the nuns falls in love with Kramer. His own romanitc power now has the potential to have a novice nun not take her final vows. Kramer clearly does not want to mess with God's possible plan for someone's live. I order to do this; he asks the church to help him get rid of the Kaforka. See for yourself:The bigger question:Can we in fact, become victims of our own talents, or for lack of better term, our own Kaforka? Here are three men who's stories might help us in taming our own Kaforka: Samson:Samson was granted incredible physical strength by God, which he used to defeat Israel's enemies, the Philistines. However, he became a victim of his own talents when he fell prey to his own weaknesses, particularly his attraction to Delilah. Delilah's manipulation led to his downfall, as she persuaded him to reveal the secret of his strength, resulting in his capture and eventual death. Samson's Kaforka was his believe that his strength ultimately belonged to him. King Solomon:Solomon was blessed with wisdom and intelligence beyond compare. He used his wisdom to rule Israel wisely and fairly, gaining renown throughout the ancient world. However, his immense wealth and numerous wives led him astray from God, ultimately resulting in his kingdom being divided after his death. This apparently very handsome king also had some Kaforka: The believe that without God he could negotiate any deal. Just a pity that he negotiated himself into a life of more than 800 wives. King Saul:aul was chosen by God to be the first king of Israel, and he possessed great leadership qualities. However, his jealousy and insecurity led him to become increasingly paranoid and distrustful, especially of David, whom he saw as a threat to his throne. Saul's inability to control his emotions and impulses ultimately led to his downfall and death in battle. Saul's extreme confidence lead to extreme jealousy - A kaforka we should all be afraid of. So the question the: How can we protect ourselves against our own Kaforka?Stay Grounded in Humility: Recognize that talents and abilities are gifts from God, rather than something to boast about or use for personal gain. Cultivate humility by acknowledging that these gifts come with responsibilities and should be used for the greater good rather than self-aggrandizement.
Seek Spiritual Guidance: Regular prayer, meditation, and studying scripture can provide spiritual guidance and help Christians stay connected to God's will. Seeking counsel from wise and trusted spiritual mentors or leaders can also offer valuable insight and accountability. Guard Against Pride and Vanity: Pride can lead to a sense of entitlement or superiority, which can cloud judgment and lead to harmful behavior. Constantly examine your motives and intentions, and guard against the temptation to seek validation or recognition from others at the expense of humility and integrity. Practice Self-Control: Recognize your strengths and weaknesses, and strive to exercise self-control in how you use your talents. Avoid situations or behaviors that may lead to temptation or compromise your values, and seek support from trusted friends or mentors when facing challenges. Serve Others with Love: Use your talents and abilities to serve others with love and compassion, rather than seeking personal gain or recognition. By focusing on the needs of others and using your gifts to uplift and empower them, you can avoid falling prey to the selfish desires that often accompany unchecked talents. Stay Accountable: Surround yourself with a supportive community of fellow believers who can offer encouragement, accountability, and constructive feedback. Being accountable to others can help keep you grounded and prevent you from straying off course. Regular Self-Reflection: Take time for regular self-reflection and examination of conscience. Reflect on your actions, attitudes, and motivations, and be honest with yourself about areas where you may need to improve or seek guidance. In a culture driven by the relentless pursuit of the newest, shiniest gadgets, the idea of using an old phone may seem counterintuitive to some. However, there are numerous advantages to embracing the old and eschewing the constant cycle of technological upgrades. As someone who recently started using an old iPhone 6, I've discovered firsthand the unexpected benefits that come with using a device that may not boast the latest features or specifications. From fostering deeper relationships to promoting better time management, here are some reasons why using an old phone can be advantageous in today's world. Financial Savings: One of the most obvious advantages of using an old phone is the cost savings. While newer models come with hefty price tags, older phones are often more affordable, allowing users to allocate their resources towards other priorities such as savings, investments, or experiences. Reduced Distractions: Older phones typically lack the bells and whistles of newer models, which can be a blessing in disguise for those looking to minimize distractions and reclaim their focus. With fewer notifications, pop-ups, and flashy features vying for attention, users may find it easier to stay present and engaged in their daily activities. Extended Battery Life: As phones age, their batteries tend to degrade, leading to shorter battery life. However, older phones often have larger battery capacities compared to newer, slimmer models. This means that while an old phone's battery may not hold a charge as long as it once did, it may still outlast its newer counterparts on a single charge. Environmental Sustainability: In a world grappling with the environmental impact of electronic waste, opting to use an old phone can be a small but meaningful act of sustainability. By extending the lifespan of a device rather than contributing to its premature disposal, users can help reduce their ecological footprint and minimize the demand for new electronic products. Enhanced Privacy and Security: Older phones may lack some of the advanced biometric security features found in newer models, but they also tend to be less susceptible to certain cybersecurity threats such as hacking and data breaches. Additionally, older operating systems may receive fewer updates, reducing the risk of vulnerabilities being exploited by malicious actors. Promotion of Intentional Living: Using an old phone encourages users to adopt a mindset of intentional living and mindful consumption. Instead of succumbing to the pressure to constantly upgrade to the latest technology, users can learn to appreciate the functionality and reliability of their current device, focusing on what truly matters rather than chasing after fleeting trends. Nostalgic Charm: There's something undeniably nostalgic about using an old phone—the familiar design, the tactile buttons, the memories stored within its digital confines. For some, the retro appeal of an old phone can evoke feelings of nostalgia and sentimentality, reminding them of simpler times before the era of constant connectivity and digital overload. In conclusion, while the allure of the latest and greatest gadgets may be tempting, there are distinct advantages to be found in embracing the old, including financial savings, reduced distractions, and environmental sustainability. By choosing to use an old phone, individuals can cultivate a deeper appreciation for simplicity, mindfulness, and intentional living in a world that often prioritizes novelty over substance. So before rushing to upgrade to the newest model, consider the unique benefits that come with sticking with what's tried and true. After all, sometimes the best technology is the one that's already in your hand.
If you haven't seen the series yet:Physical 100 is a reality TV show on Netflix. It showcases different athletes from South Korea competing separately or in teams for prize money. From wrestlers and bodybuilders to fireman and rugby players, pro weight lifters and many more, the show series showcases men and woman competing. The first series was won by Woo Jin-Yong, a snow-boarder and Cross-Fit athlete. This guy is a beast, defeating guys and girls probably twice his size with different skill sets. Series 2 is halfway done!Series 2 is halfway done, and very popular on Netflix. During episode 5 there was an interesting challenge. It was part of challenge 2. Contestants were in teams of 5. There were 10 teams with only five being able to stand a chance of competing in the next round. There were five rounds of 2 teams who had to compete against each other to continue to the next round. Two of the teams' leaders had different approaches to motivating their teams. Appealing to talent and achievement:Since all the contestants are well-known South Korean athletes they are known to each other. The first team's leader had an approach which involved appealing to his team's talent. He reminded them that they were all winners in their respective sports. They were extreme atlethes. They had no reason to loose. Appealing to character and personality:The second leader acknowledged that the other team looked stronger on paper. He then continued to inspire them with the following words: "I don't mind. I will choose you again any day." These powerful words showed his teams that he choose them with a specific plan. That plan had no regtrets, regardless of the opposition. Guess who won?The second team won. Appealing to is team's character and their individual personalities helped them succeed. The question is why? Simon Sinek explains why:The brilliant leadership consultant and thinker extraordinaire, Simon Sinek ,explains why in this video clip about how Navy Seals select their top teams. Everything is about what I can trust you with:Simon Sinek explains it great. "I can trust you with my life. Can I trust you with my wife?" That question should be central to the way you think about trusting people and the way you should live as a person.
Remember, someone should name you as trustworthy with their wife. That is a true test of character. That is once again confirmed by this Netflix show. Appeal to peoples' character and they will show you if they are worthy of the best results. When it comes to Physical 100, it showed one team way superior than the other. You can live the same way.

Serena Williams (From Tennis to Sprinter Or Long Jump):Serena Williams is a tennis legend whose powerful serve and relentless aggression have propelled her to the pinnacle of the sport. But with her natural athleticism and competitive spirit, Serena could have excelled in a variety of other disciplines, including track and field. As a sprinter or long jumper, Serena's explosive speed and strength would have made her a formidable opponent on the track, while her determination and focus would have carried her far in the field events. Michael Phelps (From Swimming to Rowing):Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian of all time, with 23 gold medals to his name. His dominance in the pool is unparalleled, but with his extraordinary lung capacity and endurance, Phelps could have been a force to be reckoned with in another water-based sport: rowing. As a member of a crew team, Phelps's ability to maintain a relentless pace over long distances could have propelled him to victory on the open water. In conclusion:In conclusion, the world of sports is full of athletes whose talents extend far beyond the confines of their chosen discipline. While we may never know what could have been if these athletes had pursued different paths, their versatility and athleticism serve as a reminder of the boundless potential of the human body and spirit. The Importance of Seeking Help in Ending a Relationship In the journey of life, relationships often play a central role, shaping our experiences and influencing our growth. However, there are moments when staying in a relationship can be detrimental rather than beneficial. Recognizing when to let go is crucial for personal well-being and spiritual growth. In such times, seeking the right help becomes paramount, guiding us towards making healthy choices and finding inner peace. Drawing wisdom from various sources, including the Bible, can provide invaluable insights into navigating these challenging decisions.
Compatibility issues and irreconcilable differences can also signal the end of a relationship. While differences are inevitable in any relationship, when they consistently lead to conflict and unhappiness, it may be time to reassess the relationship's viability. Ecclesiastes 3:1 states, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." Understanding that seasons in relationships change and sometimes come to an end can provide solace and clarity when facing difficult decisions. Furthermore, personal growth and fulfillment are essential aspects of a healthy relationship. If one feels stagnant or constrained in their personal growth within the relationship, it may be a sign that it's time to move on. Philippians 3:13-14 encourages us to press on towards the goal, letting go of what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead. Seeking counsel from mentors or spiritual advisors can provide guidance in discerning the path towards personal growth and fulfillment. Financial strain and incompatible life goals can also strain a relationship beyond repair. While love is a powerful bond, practical considerations such as financial stability and life aspirations cannot be ignored. Proverbs 21:5 advises, "The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty." Seeking professional guidance, such as financial counseling or couples therapy, can help address these practical challenges and explore potential solutions. Despite the difficulty of ending a relationship, it's essential to prioritize one's well-being and emotional health. Psalm 34:18 reminds us that "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Seeking support from faith communities or counseling services can provide comfort and guidance during times of heartache and uncertainty. In conclusion, knowing when to let go of a relationship is a deeply personal and often challenging decision. However, seeking the right help is crucial in navigating this journey with wisdom and grace. Whether it's seeking counsel from trusted individuals, drawing wisdom from the Bible, or seeking professional assistance, there are resources available to support those facing the end of a relationship. By prioritizing personal well-being and seeking guidance, individuals can find healing, growth, and ultimately, peace in letting go. How to know that the relationship is toxic?Recognizing that you are in a toxic relationship can be challenging, as toxic behaviors can sometimes be subtle or normalized over time. However, there are several common signs and circumstances that may indicate you are in a toxic relationship:
Lack of Trust: Trust is the foundation of any healthy relationship. If you constantly feel suspicious or doubt your partner's actions, or if your partner exhibits controlling behaviors that limit your independence or autonomy, it could be a sign of toxicity. Constant Criticism or Put-Downs: In a toxic relationship, one or both partners may engage in frequent criticism, insults, or belittling behavior. This can erode self-esteem and create a negative dynamic within the relationship. Manipulative Behavior: Manipulation can take various forms, including guilt-tripping, gaslighting, or using emotional blackmail to control the other person. If you feel like you're constantly walking on eggshells or being manipulated into doing things you're uncomfortable with, it's a red flag. Lack of Communication or Respect: Healthy communication is essential for resolving conflicts and maintaining a strong connection. In toxic relationships, communication may be nonexistent, or it may be characterized by hostility, defensiveness, or stonewalling. Additionally, if your boundaries are consistently disregarded, it's a sign of disrespect that can lead to toxicity. Cycle of Abuse: In abusive relationships, there may be a cycle of tension building, explosion (such as verbal, emotional, or physical abuse), reconciliation, and then a honeymoon phase where the abuser apologizes and promises to change. However, the cycle often repeats, trapping the victim in a pattern of abuse. Isolation: Toxic partners may seek to isolate you from friends, family, or other sources of support. They may discourage you from spending time with loved ones, criticize your relationships, or create conflicts to drive people away. Feeling Drained or Depressed: Being in a toxic relationship can take a toll on your mental and emotional well-being. If you find yourself feeling constantly drained, anxious, or depressed when you're around your partner, it's a sign that something is amiss. Physical or Emotional Abuse: This is perhaps the most obvious sign of a toxic relationship. Physical abuse includes hitting, slapping, kicking, or any form of violence. Emotional abuse can be just as damaging and may involve threats, intimidation, or humiliation. Feeling Stuck or Hopeless: If you consistently feel trapped or hopeless about the relationship, despite efforts to improve it, it may be a sign that the toxicity has become too ingrained to overcome. It's important to remember that every relationship has its challenges, but if these signs are pervasive and causing significant distress, it's essential to seek help and consider whether the relationship is worth continuing. Trust your instincts and prioritize your well-being above all else. If you're unsure, reaching out to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist can provide clarity and support. During my father's last three months on earth he could've in a lot of pain. He wasn't. He felt prepared to meet the God he so dearly loved and served. But terminal illness (like het had), can cause terrible pain. A product like CBD oil can help, but should Christians use it? "Christianity, CBD Oil, and What the Bible Says About It: Exploring Christian Responses to Marijuana Legalization"
In recent years, the legalization of marijuana, particularly for medicinal and recreational use, has sparked debates and discussions across the globe. Alongside this trend, the popularity of CBD (cannabidiol) oil, a non-psychoactive compound derived from the cannabis plant, has surged, with many touting its potential health benefits. For Christians, navigating the complex landscape of marijuana legalization and the use of CBD oil raises important questions about faith, ethics, and the teachings of the Bible. In this blog, we'll explore Christian responses to marijuana legalization and what the Bible has to say about it. First and foremost, it's essential to recognize that the Bible does not directly address the use of marijuana or CBD oil, as these substances were not known in biblical times. However, Christians often turn to biblical principles and teachings to inform their views on contemporary issues such as drug use and substance abuse. One key principle that Christians consider is found in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, which states, "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies." This verse emphasizes the importance of caring for our bodies, which are considered sacred vessels for the Holy Spirit. Some Christians argue that using marijuana or CBD oil in moderation and for legitimate medical purposes may align with this principle, as long as it does not lead to addiction or harm. On the other hand, many Christians express concerns about the potential risks and ethical implications of marijuana use, particularly when it comes to recreational consumption. While the Bible does not explicitly condemn the use of marijuana, it does warn against drunkenness and intoxication (Ephesians 5:18). Some Christians argue that the mind-altering effects of marijuana may lead to impaired judgment, dependency, and a lack of self-control, which are inconsistent with biblical values. Furthermore, Christians grapple with the broader societal implications of marijuana legalization, including its impact on public health, social justice, and morality. While proponents of legalization argue that it can reduce crime, generate tax revenue, and provide relief for those suffering from chronic pain or illness, opponents raise concerns about increased substance abuse, addiction, and the normalization of drug use. In light of these considerations, Christian responses to marijuana legalization vary widely. Some Christians advocate for a balanced approach that acknowledges the potential benefits of marijuana for medical purposes while maintaining strict regulations to prevent abuse and ensure public safety. Others take a more conservative stance, emphasizing abstinence from marijuana and promoting alternative forms of treatment and pain management. When it comes to CBD oil specifically, many Christians view it differently than marijuana due to its non-psychoactive nature and potential therapeutic effects. Some Christians use CBD oil as a natural remedy for various ailments, such as anxiety, inflammation, and chronic pain, while others approach it with caution, mindful of potential risks and uncertainties surrounding its long-term use. In conclusion, Christianity, CBD oil, and marijuana legalization intersect in complex ways that raise important ethical, theological, and practical questions for believers. While the Bible does not provide clear-cut answers on these issues, Christians are called to approach them with wisdom, discernment, and compassion, seeking to honor God with their bodies and contribute to the well-being of society as a whole. As debates continue and laws evolve, Christians must prayerfully consider how to navigate these issues in accordance with their faith and values. So we bought a machine...Early in 2019 we bought our first laser cutting machine. Five years on, I still love it. As with all machines, you learn all the little dos and don'ts of operating the machine. Laser Cutting Is Fun, Unless...Laser cutting is undoubtedly a fascinating and versatile technology that has revolutionized manufacturing and crafting processes. With its precision, speed, and ability to cut through a variety of materials with ease, laser cutting has opened up a world of creative possibilities for hobbyists, artists, and small businesses alike. However, while laser cutting may seem like a straightforward and enjoyable endeavor, there are several challenges that arise when working on a small scale. In this blog, we'll explore some of these challenges and how to navigate them effectively. Material Limitations:One of the primary challenges of laser cutting on a small scale is the limited range of materials that can be effectively cut or engraved. While industrial-grade laser cutters can handle a wide variety of materials, including metals and thick woods, small-scale laser cutters often have limitations in terms of material thickness and compatibility. This can restrict the types of projects that can be undertaken and may require experimentation to find the right balance between material and cutting settings. Precision and Detail:Achieving precise cuts and intricate detail can be challenging when working on a small scale. Unlike larger industrial machines, small-scale laser cutters may lack the power and precision needed to execute complex designs accurately. As a result, fine details may be lost or compromised, leading to less-than-perfect results. This requires careful planning and optimization of design files to ensure that the final product meets expectations. Fire and Safety Concerns:Laser cutting, especially on a small scale, poses potential fire and safety hazards that must be taken seriously. The intense heat generated by the laser beam can ignite flammable materials or cause excessive charring, leading to unexpected fires or damage to the workpiece. Additionally, exposure to laser radiation can pose health risks if proper safety precautions are not followed. It is essential to have appropriate ventilation, fire suppression systems, and personal protective equipment in place to mitigate these risks and ensure a safe working environment. Cost Considerations:While small-scale laser cutters may be more affordable than their industrial counterparts, they still represent a significant investment for hobbyists and small businesses. Beyond the initial cost of the machine itself, there are ongoing expenses such as maintenance, replacement parts, and consumables like laser tubes and lenses. Additionally, the cost of materials for cutting and engraving projects can add up quickly, especially when working with premium or exotic materials. It's essential to carefully consider the financial implications of laser cutting on a small scale and budget accordingly. Learning Curve:Finally, mastering the art of laser cutting takes time and practice, especially for beginners. Understanding the intricacies of design software, setting up the laser cutter correctly, and troubleshooting common issues all require patience and persistence. It's essential to invest time in learning the basics of laser cutting and gradually build skills and confidence through hands-on experience and experimentation. To conclude:In conclusion, while laser cutting on a small scale can be a fun and rewarding endeavor, it comes with its fair share of challenges. From material limitations and precision issues to safety concerns and cost considerations, navigating these obstacles requires careful planning, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and adapt. By understanding and addressing these challenges effectively, hobbyists and small businesses can unlock the full potential of laser cutting technology and bring their creative visions to life.
Let's focus on the 20th century:The 20th century was a tumultuous period marked by world wars, political upheaval, scientific advancements, and profound cultural shifts. Against this backdrop of unprecedented change and uncertainty, three influential theologians emerged, each offering unique insights and perspectives that continue to shape Christian thought and practice today. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Karl Barth, and Jürgen Moltmann lived and worked during a time of profound social, political, and theological upheaval, and their contributions to theology reflect their engagement with the pressing issues of their era. In this blog post, we will explore the context in which Bonhoeffer, Barth, and Moltmann lived and worked, and how their theological reflections continue to offer relevance and inspiration in our contemporary world. Karl Barth: Karl Barth (1886-1968) was a Swiss Reformed theologian widely regarded as one of the most significant Christian thinkers of the 20th century. Born on May 10, 1886, in Basel, Switzerland, Barth grew up in a devout Christian family with a strong theological tradition. He initially studied theology at the University of Bern and later at the University of Berlin, where he was profoundly influenced by the liberal theology of his professors. Important themes:Emphasis on the Sovereignty of God: Barth's theology underscores the sovereignty and transcendence of God. In a world marked by uncertainty and turmoil, Barth's reminder of God's ultimate authority can provide Christians with a sense of trust and security amidst life's challenges. Recognizing God's sovereignty encourages believers to surrender their lives to God's will and trust in His providence. Centrality of the Word of God: Barth placed a strong emphasis on the authority and primacy of the Word of God, particularly as revealed in Jesus Christ. For Christians today, this emphasis serves as a reminder of the importance of engaging with Scripture as the primary source of divine revelation. Through studying and meditating on God's Word, believers can deepen their understanding of God's character, purposes, and ethical teachings. Engagement with Contemporary Culture: Barth's theology was deeply engaged with the cultural and political context of his time. He challenged Christians to critically engage with the world around them while remaining faithful to the Gospel. In today's pluralistic and rapidly changing world, Barth's approach encourages Christians to actively participate in social, political, and cultural discourse from a perspective rooted in their faith. Jurgen Moltmann:Jürgen Moltmann (born 1926) is a German Reformed theologian known for his profound contributions to Christian theology, particularly in the areas of eschatology, the theology of hope, and the theology of the cross. Born on April 8, 1926, in Hamburg, Germany, Moltmann grew up in a secular family and initially pursued studies in philosophy and theology with the intention of becoming a pastor. Important themes:Theology of Hope: Moltmann's theology emphasizes the eschatological dimension of Christian faith, focusing on the hope of God's future kingdom. In a world marked by suffering, injustice, and despair, Moltmann's theology offers a message of hope rooted in the promise of God's ultimate redemption and renewal. This message can inspire Christians to persevere in their faith and actively work for justice and reconciliation in the world. Theology of the Cross: Moltmann's reflection on the theology of the cross highlights the significance of Christ's suffering and solidarity with human suffering. This theology invites Christians to embrace a spirituality of solidarity with those who are marginalized, oppressed, and suffering. It calls believers to embody the compassion and love of Christ in their interactions with others, particularly those who are most vulnerable. Dialogue with Science and Ecology: Moltmann has engaged in dialogue with contemporary issues such as science and ecology, emphasizing the importance of ecological responsibility and stewardship of creation. In an age of environmental crisis, Moltmann's theology challenges Christians to adopt an ecological worldview that recognizes the interconnectedness of all life and advocates for sustainable practices that honor God's creation. Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) was a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, and anti-Nazi dissident who left an indelible mark on Christian thought and witness in the 20th century. Born on February 4, 1906, into a large, prominent family in Breslau, Germany (now Wrocław, Poland), Bonhoeffer displayed early intellectual prowess and a deep commitment to his Christian faith. Important themes:Costly Discipleship: Bonhoeffer's concept of "costly discipleship" challenges Christians to embrace a radical commitment to following Christ, even in the face of opposition and persecution. In a culture characterized by consumerism, individualism, and comfort-seeking, Bonhoeffer's call to sacrificial discipleship reminds believers of the radical demands of the Gospel. His emphasis on living out one's faith authentically and courageously speaks to the challenges of being a faithful disciple in today's world. Ethics and Responsibility: Bonhoeffer's writings on Christian ethics and social responsibility highlight the importance of ethical discernment and moral courage in the face of injustice and tyranny. His involvement in the resistance against the Nazi regime and his eventual martyrdom demonstrate his commitment to living out the ethical imperatives of the Gospel, even in the most difficult circumstances. Bonhoeffer's witness inspires Christians today to courageously confront injustice, advocate for the marginalized, and uphold human dignity and rights. Theology of Community: Bonhoeffer's theology emphasized the importance of Christian community, or "life together" (Gemeinsames Leben), as a context for discipleship and spiritual growth. In an age marked by individualism and social fragmentation, Bonhoeffer's vision of vibrant Christian community challenges believers to prioritize relationships, hospitality, and fellowship within the body of Christ. His emphasis on communal living and shared spiritual practices offers a compelling alternative to the isolation and alienation prevalent in contemporary society. What do they all have in common? While Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Karl Barth, and Jürgen Moltmann each had distinct theological emphases and contributed unique insights to Christian thought, there are several similarities that can be observed among them: Critique of Liberal Theology: All three theologians were critical of the dominant liberal theology of their time, which they saw as overly accommodating to modern culture and lacking in its commitment to the authority of Scripture and the uniqueness of Christian revelation. Instead, they sought to reassert the distinctiveness of Christian faith and the centrality of the Gospel message in their theological reflections. Emphasis on Christocentricity: Bonhoeffer, Barth, and Moltmann all placed a strong emphasis on the person and work of Jesus Christ as the center of Christian faith and theology. They believed that the revelation of God in Christ was the decisive event in human history and the focal point of divine self-disclosure. For each of them, Christology was foundational to understanding God, humanity, and the Christian life. Eschatological Hope: Another common theme among these theologians is their emphasis on eschatological hope—the belief in God's ultimate fulfillment of His promises and the coming of His kingdom in the future. Bonhoeffer, Barth, and Moltmann all saw hope as an essential aspect of Christian faith, providing believers with assurance in the midst of suffering, injustice, and uncertainty. Ethical Engagement: Despite their differing theological emphases, all three theologians were deeply committed to the ethical implications of Christian faith. They believed that faith in Christ should lead to concrete action in the world, including social justice, compassion for the marginalized, and resistance against injustice. Each of them grappled with questions of ethical responsibility in their own contexts, whether it was Bonhoeffer's involvement in the resistance against Hitler, Barth's critique of totalitarianism, or Moltmann's advocacy for peace and ecological stewardship. Influence Beyond Their Own Tradition: While Bonhoeffer, Barth, and Moltmann were rooted in the Protestant tradition, their theological insights have resonated across denominational boundaries and continue to influence Christians of various traditions around the world. Their writings have been translated into multiple languages and have been widely read and studied by theologians, pastors, and laypeople alike, making them enduring figures in the landscape of Christian theology. To conclude:In summary, the insights of Karl Barth, Jürgen Moltmann, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer offer valuable guidance and inspiration for Christians navigating the complexities of the contemporary world. Their emphasis on God's sovereignty, hope in the midst of suffering, sacrificial discipleship, ethical responsibility, and Christian community provides a robust framework for faithful Christian living in today's context.

In the annals of ancient Israelite history, one figure stands out for his tragic descent into spiritual neglect: Saul, the first king of Israel. His story serves as a cautionary tale, illustrating the perilous consequences of forsaking prayer and spiritual communion. As believers in today's world, we can draw valuable lessons from Saul's shortcomings, understanding the importance of prayer and spiritual connection in our lives. Saul's reign began with promise and potential. Chosen by God through the prophet Samuel, Saul was anointed as king over Israel to lead the nation in battle against its enemies. Initially, Saul demonstrated courage and leadership on the battlefield, securing victories for his people. However, beneath the facade of military prowess lurked a troubling spiritual neglect.
The consequences of Saul's spiritual neglect were manifold. In moments of uncertainty and moral quandary, he made rash decisions driven by fear and insecurity. His impulsive actions, such as offering unauthorized sacrifices and sparing the Amalekite king Agag against God's command, ultimately led to his downfall. As believers in today's world, we must heed the cautionary tale of Saul and recognize the dangers of neglecting prayer and spiritual communion. Just as Saul's spiritual neglect resulted in dire consequences, our own neglect of prayer can lead to spiritual apathy, moral compromise, and estrangement from God. Prayer is not merely a religious ritual or obligation; it is the lifeline of our spiritual journey. Through prayer, we cultivate intimacy with the divine, align our will with God's purposes, and receive guidance, strength, and comfort for life's challenges. Neglecting prayer leaves us vulnerable to the snares of ego, temptation, and worldly distractions.
The life of Saul, the first king of ancient Israel, serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of neglecting prayer and spiritual communion. His failure to prioritize prayer led to spiritual decay, moral compromise, and ultimately, his downfall. As believers in today's world, let us learn from Saul's example and cultivate a vibrant prayer life that sustains and nourishes our souls on the journey of faith.
About rugby:In the world of sports, rugby stands out as not only a physically demanding game but also a platform for shaping character, instilling values, and fostering community. For those with a passion for both rugby and faith, coaching presents a unique opportunity to spread the gospel in a meaningful and impactful way. Here, we'll explore how rugby coaching can serve as a powerful avenue for sharing the message of faith and building relationships rooted in spiritual growth. Probably one of the greatest team sports ever:First and foremost, rugby coaching provides a platform for demonstrating and teaching important values that align with the principles of the gospel. Integrity, teamwork, perseverance, and respect are just a few of the core values inherent in rugby that parallel the teachings of Christianity. As coaches guide their players through the ups and downs of training and competition, they have the opportunity to model these values and impart them to the next generation of athletes. Moreover, coaching allows for the formation of deep and meaningful relationships between coaches and players. Through regular interaction and mentorship, coaches can create a supportive and nurturing environment where players feel valued and cared for beyond their performance on the field. These relationships provide a natural opening for discussions about faith and spirituality, allowing coaches to share their own beliefs and provide guidance to those who may be seeking spiritual direction. In addition to fostering individual growth, rugby coaching also offers opportunities for community outreach and engagement. Many rugby teams are deeply rooted in their local communities, participating in events, fundraisers, and service projects that benefit those in need. By actively involving their teams in such activities, coaches can demonstrate the love and compassion of Christ in tangible ways, showing that faith is not just about words but about action and service. Furthermore, rugby coaching provides a platform for sharing the gospel in a context that is relatable and accessible to athletes of all backgrounds. Whether players come from Christian households or have never set foot in a church, the principles of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance are universal concepts that resonate with people from all walks of life. By incorporating biblical teachings into training sessions, team meetings, and pre-game rituals, coaches can seamlessly integrate faith into the fabric of their team culture. Of course, spreading the gospel through rugby coaching requires sensitivity, discernment, and respect for the beliefs of others. Coaches must be mindful of the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of their players and approach discussions of faith with humility and openness. Rather than imposing their beliefs onto others, coaches should seek to create a safe space where players feel comfortable exploring their own spirituality and asking questions about faith. Here are some basic skills and how you can teach Biblical skills through it: Passing the ball - Sharing and Generosity:Rugby requires players to pass the ball to teammates in order to advance down the field and score points. Similarly, faith teaches children about the importance of sharing and generosity. By practicing passing skills on the rugby field, children can learn that just as they willingly pass the ball to their teammates, they can also share their time, talents, and resources with others in need. This teaches them about the joy and fulfillment that comes from giving selflessly, reflecting the generosity and compassion modeled by God. Tackling - Courage and Protection:Tackling is a fundamental aspect of rugby that requires courage and determination. Players must be brave enough to confront opponents head-on while also ensuring the safety and protection of themselves and their teammates. Similarly, faith in God requires children to have courage in facing life's challenges and protecting themselves and others from harm. By practicing tackling techniques on the rugby field, children can learn about the importance of standing firm in their beliefs and defending what is right, knowing that God is their ultimate protector and source of strength. Catching and Kicking - Trust and Precision:Catching and kicking the ball are essential skills in rugby that require trust in oneself and precision in execution. Players must have confidence in their abilities to catch and kick accurately, trusting that their training and practice will pay off in game situations. Similarly, faith in God requires children to trust in His plan for their lives and to strive for excellence in all that they do. By honing their catching and kicking skills on the rugby field, children can learn about the importance of trusting in God's guidance and relying on His strength to achieve their goals, knowing that He is always there to catch them when they fall and help them navigate life's twists and turns. When we shocked our parentsBack in 2007, while studying at the University of the Freestate in sunny South Africa, three friends had a great idea. Let's back-pack through Africa. I was one of those three. So from 1 December 2008 to 1 January 2009 we did just that. After flying to Uganda, we used public transport to travel back to South Africa, destination Cape Town. We river rafted in the Nile, snorkeled on the island of Zanzibar and had many other adventures. Some planned, like visiting the Serengeti. Others were unplanned, like surviving the night the bus we traveled on burned out. This begs the question, what should you take with you, and more importantly what are the items you can't go without while visiting the supposed dark continent. We still call this place home, and there is nothing dark about it. Portable Water Filter:While it's common to pack water purification tablets or a water filtration system for outdoor adventures, having a portable water filter can be crucial in Africa, where access to clean water may be limited in some remote areas. But most places have bottled water as well. Only drink the tap water if your hosts are always drinking it as well and when there are no illness due to it in the specific region. Solar-Powered Lantern:In many parts of Africa, electricity can be unreliable or nonexistent, especially when camping or trekking in rural areas. A solar-powered lantern can provide essential light during the night and ensure you're not left in the dark. We also had small headlights, but some towns don't always have batteries. This means that you either need to have a solar powered light, or enough batteries. Snake Bite Kit: Africa is home to a variety of venomous snakes, and encountering one while hiking or camping is a possibility. Packing a snake bite kit with antivenom and bandages can provide peace of mind and potentially lifesaving assistance in case of an emergency. When we were in the Serengeti our guide, a man named Levis Lewis explained that they do have cure for a Black Mamba bite. The cure is to sit in the shade. You won't survive, but at least you won't rot in the sun after you die. Meaning: Take a snake bite kit with you. Universal Plug Adapter: Electrical outlets and plug types vary across different African countries. Bringing a universal plug adapter ensures you can charge your electronic devices wherever you go, whether it's in a hostel, guesthouse, or café. Lightweight Hammock: While a tent is a standard camping item, a lightweight hammock can be a surprising addition to your backpacking gear in Africa. It offers a comfortable and elevated sleeping option, keeps you away from potential ground insects or dampness, and provides a unique way to experience the African outdoors. We did not have hammocks, until we landed on Zanzibar. It really does make a huge difference. We also had small foam mattresses and shared a tent between the three of us. In conclusionYou might not think you will need these items, but trust me, you will.
